Weekend Reflections #60: Drop Anchor!

The guy on the right has just dropped anchor in hopes of reeling in a big one, maybe two. Don't expect it will be too long before he'll be saying Anchor's Aweigh! Question for music lovers and old timers: Do you remember who was in the 1945 film Anchors Aweigh? I just saw a clip of it in one of Michael Feinstein's musical histories. Anchors Aweigh is also the fight song for the US Naval Academy and, of course, a part of the US Navy. More Weekend Reflections at Newtown Area Photo and the Weekend Reflections' meme.

The Weekend in Black and White: Belted Kingfisher

A very shy bird in my experience - whenever I make an appearance, the bird immediately takes off for some place well away from me. However, these past few days, this one has decided to bite the bullet and stand her ground. Interesting fact about the Belted Kingfishers:
This kingfisher shows reverse sexual dimorphism,
with the female more brightly coloured than the male (from wikipedia).

The Good Hugger

Goes by the name Joanne.

Free Hugs!

Just outside the entrance to the IU campus in Bloomington, these two graduate students, Joanne and Austin, are passing out free hugs every Friday. The young lady told me that the hugging falls off with the cooler weather. Seems to me it should pick up with the cooler weather - but then what do I know. And, if you're wondering, yes, I did get one of the advertized hugs and, yes, she's a very good hugger. So, you doing anything next Friday?

Weekend Reflections #59: Young Lady at Bus Stop

Remember the movie Bus Stop? With Marilyn Monroe? Don't think this young lady is an MM yet though she may be a Norma Jean Baker. Bloomington street scene earlier today. For more marvelous weekend reflections, visit Newtown Area Photo and the Weekend Reflections meme.
