A very shy bird in my experience - whenever I make an appearance, the bird immediately takes off for some place well away from me. However, these past few days, this one has decided to bite the bullet and stand her ground. Interesting fact about the Belted Kingfishers:
This kingfisher shows reverse sexual dimorphism,
with the female more brightly coloured than the male (from wikipedia).

Terrific capture as always and it is really interesting that, for a change, it's the female who is more brightly colored! Have a great day!

Love the play of power lines with the little one quietly watching! Wonderful photo!
I'd no idea there were so many kinds of kingfisher! Lovely photo - I'm glad the little one decided to pose for you.
The whites on her chest form into wings! Interesting shot, Michael!
I can;t help but wonder what is going through this little bird’s mind. Thanks for the info on the Belted Kingfisher...very interesting. The curves and angles in this shot make it so interesting.
what a lovely bird, and nice of her to stay put, so you can take picture a picture of her....very nice picture...
The bird seems very interested i those electrical connections - maybe you were overlooked?
A bird i don't think we have over here.
Hehe.. Kingfishers. Maybe they were thinking that you're scaring the fish, so they took off. hehe... =)
I don't think that we have Kingfishers here in the Philippines. This is an interesting shot. =)

Have a nice weekend****
Yeah, these guys are really hard to photograph. One or two stop at our pond every spring for a day or two before heading on to the bigger lakes in the area and I never can get a photo of them!
такая птичка милая..
